Gardening and growing plants, particularly food, feels like it’s something that has always called to me. Even though I certainly had no idea the depth of knowledge that exists within gardening or how strong my longing to be a gardener would eventually become.
When I was still living at home and in my first couple of apartments, I tried growing a couple of different vegetables and flowers with some successes, but mostly failures. This (unknown to me at the time) was entirely due to a lack of knowledge on growing/gardening. I didn’t even know the first thing about gardening, about seasonal growing, fertilising, pruning, pests and diseases, etc…
Last weekend I got to “snoop” at an open garden festival in a small town about 15 minutes away from where I live. Where many people, organisations and cafes open their gardening spaces to share their hard work, passion and achievements with the public. This was so inspiring to someone like me, who has an unexplored desire and passion for gardening that is bubbling at the surface, it was the push I needed to decide that I will make gardening a part of my life. I know it won’t be my reality for a couple of years yet but I’m determined to study, learn, experiment where I can and make small changes each day towards a future in the garden.
Garden 01: The first of my two favourite gardens was this beautiful estate featuring a large hedged garden of vegetables in raised beds, flowers, chickens and a view of the surrounding fields.
Where I first discovered and fell in love with Lupines.
Growing an appreciation for the charming reuse of rustic elements in the garden.
Garden 02: My second favourite garden was this elegant country-style cottage featuring a vegetable garden, fish pond, pavilions and lovely white doves.
More rustic charm.
